Zen - February 9, 1998 - March 3, 2007
Zen passed on at only 9 years of age. Zen came into our lives
in February 1998 when he and his sister, Missy,
were adopted from the Hawaii Island Humane Society. They were
just four weeks old. He lived a short but full life before developing
catastrophic kidney failure.The house doesn't feel quite right
without his presence. His sister, Missy, and we miss him and he'll
be forever in our hearts. |

Samantha - March
3, 1988 - December 23, 2006
Samantha passed on at 18 3/4 years of
age. Samantha came into our lives
in July 1989 when the downstairs tenant in the Kona house said
she was moving back to the mainland and would we take care of
her cat, who was extraordinarily shy. After a few months
she started coming into the house in the evenings to eat.
A few months later she was spending her nights in the house.
One morning she walked up to the door to be let out, stopped,
looked at me, looked outside, looked at me again and turned
around and got back up on the sofa. She never offered
to go outside again. Smart kitty. She has lived
a good life, sleeping on the bed at night curled up against
David's head. She lived comfortably with failing kidneys for
a number of years with hydration and medication. Eventually
she went into a quiet twilight sleep and the vet helped her
pass on. The house doesn't feel quite right without her presence,
especially the master bedroom which was her principle residence
in her later years. We miss her and she'll be forever
in our hearts.

Maquis - March 15, 1992
- November 17, 2005
Maquis passed on at 13 2/3 years of age.
Maquis came into our lives in February 1998 when a neighbor moved
to Texas declaring she didn't want that cat. He had terrible
flea allergies so his fur and skin were a mess but easily treated
with flea control and a good diet. About 6 months after
he came to live with us in the Kona house, Maquis developed diabetes.
He has lived a good life with an insulin shot every morning. But
the diabetes compromised his eyesight and his kidneys, as diabetes
does. He was still doing well until Monday, when we noticed
his pupils were different sizes and he lost interest in eating.
The vet recommended three days of treatment but his breathing
became labored and his pupils did not change. The vet helped
him pass on. The house doesn't feel quite right without his presence,
especially the office which was his principle residence.
We miss him and he'll be forever in our hearts. |
